Bacardi 8 ($30). Bacardi's biggest seller is its famous white rum (white rum is actually clear, colorless and light in flavor, making it ideal for cocktails), but the company also produces some wonderful darker, aged rums that can be drunk neat, including this delicate eight-year-old blend with a golden color and engaging tastes of caramel, apples, orange blossoms and pears.
Gran Blasón Añejo Especial ($35). Only a handful of Costa Rican rums are exported to the United States; this is definitely the best. It's extremely assertive, with a coffee-like bitterness and a wisp of smoke.
Myers's Legend ($40). This reserve blend is more nuanced than the original Myers rum, and with its hints of cloves and cardamom worked into a rich base of coffee and molasses flavors, it's a great rum for sipping.
