Hollywood Stars
Robin and Stephen have become the designers of choice for actors like Kate Hudson. For an old-fashioned look, they painted Hudson's kitchen doors with oil paint from Fine Paints of Europe, which looks wet even when dry (800-332-1556).
Worldwide Wood
The two designers like to use unusual woods, such as imbuya, a hardwood from Brazil. For Ben Stiller's kitchen, they had BDDW in Manhattan make an island top out of claro walnut, which can have a beautiful swirled grain (5 Crosby St.; 212-625-1230).
Unusual Tiles
Robin created custom ceramic tiles, faintly stained with tea, for Stiller's kitchen walls. She and Stephen also favor Nicaraguan terra-cotta tile; BarroNica in Pacific Palisades, California, is their preferred source (1011 Swarthmore Ave.; 310-454-9822).
Glass Collection
The glass-fronted cabinet in the couple's loft comes from an old Philadelphia apothecary; its twin was in the movie Practical Magic. Some of the pieces inside were handblown by artisan Alison Berger (from Holly Hunt, to the trade only; 312-644-6736).
Shades of White
Tile samples in Robin's office reflect her interest in subtle ranges of color. Says Stephen, "When we paint a room white, we use 17 different whites."
Sketch Pad
Stephen made references to sake warehouses, bottles and labels in his designs for Kura, an upcoming Japanese restaurant in Beverly Hills.
Knob Collection
Robin collects vintage doorknobs in a variety of materials, which she uses as cabinet pulls. One of her favorite sources is Olde Good Things in New York City (212-989-8401).
Utilitarian Art
On Robin and Stephen's kitchen wall are plaster imprints of molds used to make cutlery. They come from folk-art store Paula Rubenstein Ltd. in Manhattan (65 Prince St.; 212-966-8954).
Inspiration Board
Every project begins with a collage of evocative images. The drawing of Stiller's kitchen here is surrounded by pictures that influenced the design.
Set Piece
This slate sink from an old mill appeared in Addicted to Love. The couple's firm, Roman and Williams, plans to sell reproductions (212-625-3808).
