During the past few years, old Miami Beach hotels have been made over and reopened at an impressive rate. Three of the latest: Tama Janowitz holed up at The Marlin, an Art Deco palace redone in concrete, brushed steel and cream-colored canvas. Drink Blue Marlins (what else?) while you log on in the Cyberlounge ($195 to $450 a night; 1200 Collins Ave.; 800-688-7678). At The Mercury, the decor runs to beechwood and leather, all the rooms are suites, and every suite has a T-1 Internet line ($195 to $395 a night; 100 Collins Ave.; 800-337-4685). The Whitelaw has white-on-white interiors, from the leather banquettes to the muslin drapes ($175 to $195 a night; 808 Collins Ave.; 800-337-4685).
