Where the Surfers Eat
When they're not in the water, you can find surfers at one of these four places.
Café Haleiwa (66-460 Kam Hwy., Haleiwa, Oahu; 808-637-5516). Breakfasts are the specialty; order the grilled mahi mahi with eggs over easy while you drink plenty of Kona coffee. It's open for lunch too.
Kua' Aina Sandwich (66-214 Kamehameha Hwy., Haleiwa, Oahu; 808-637-6067). Surfers line up for the outstanding burgers, with toppings ranging from bacon to pineapple; the killer sandwiches include mahi mahi and teriyaki chicken.
Mama's Fish House (799 Pho Pl., Maui; 808-579-8488). You'll find this amazing fish restaurant in the middle of a coconut grove. The menu names the fishermen who caught your dinner.
Oodles of Noodles (775-1027 Henry St., Kailua-Kona, Big Island; 808-329-9222). Star chef Amy Ferguson Ota serves everything from Vietnamese noodle soup to spicy lamb chops with noodle hash browns.
