Dim lighting, a bad floor plan and a gigantic refrigerator that dominated the room were some of the problems with Peggy Knickerbocker's kitchen. That and the fact that the space hadn't been updated for anywhere from 25 to 50 years.
Lighting A chandelier provided too little illumination for cooking.
Refrigerator A Kenmore model was too big for the kitchen, making it uncomfortable for friends to gather there to socialize or help cook.
Stove The oven of the 1960s Amana was impossible to calibrate; the burners produced uneven flames.
Sink Small and leaky, it had old faucets that were hard to adjust.
Storage Metal cabinets from the '50s were rusty, and there wasn't any drawer space. Plus the pantry shelves were badly arranged and not well lit.
Dishwasher A portable unit had to be hooked up to the faucet for each wash.
