Old money and new should feel right at home in two of Philadelphia's most dramatic new hotels: Both are housed in former banks. The neoclassical marble building that anchors the 330 rooms of the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia (10 Ave. of the Arts; 800-241-3333) was built in 1908 for the Girard Trust and is a replica of the Pantheon in Rome. The world's first modernist skyscraper houses the Loews Philadelphia Hotel (1200 Market St.; 215-627-1200), a sleek 583-room tower. The former Philadelphia Savings Fund Society headquarters retains many original Art Deco details from 1932, with acres of polished black granite trimmed in stainless steel.
