Restaurants
FoodBall Camper's new organic fast-food restaurant specializes in rice balls with a choice of fillings and dipping sauces. Customers sit on enormous steps built to resemble a stoop rather than at tables and chairs. DETAILS Elisabets 9; 011-34-932-701-363.
Casa Leopoldo A neighborhood classic, this cozy restaurant is at the end of Rambla del Raval, a wide promenade that runs through the center of El Raval. DETAILS Sant Rafael 24; 011-34-934-416-942.
Escribà This pâtisserie and café in an Art Nouveau building is known for its cakes and elaborate chocolate figures. The shop's late owner, Antoni Escribà, dreamed of being a sculptor but ended up taking over his family's chocolate business, and was dubbed "the first avant-garde figure of Spanish cooking" by superchef Ferran Adrià. DETAILS Rambla de les Flors 83; 011-34-933-016-027.
Granja M. Viader Cacaolat, Catalonia's popular hot chocolate drink, was reputedly invented at this café, an intimate space with marble-topped tables, centuries-old tiles and vintage posters on the walls. Granja also makes terrific flan. DETAILS Xuclà 4-6; 011-34-933-183-486.
