SUKHUMVIT SOI 23 This lane, off the busy Sukhumvit Road, has fabulous shops all within a short stroll of one another. Start outside L'Arcadia (12 Sukhumvit Soi 23) for Thai and Burmese furniture. Pass Le Dalat Indochine (14 Sukhumvit Soi 23), which serves great Vietnamese food in a pretty old house, and you'll see the pink signs for Almeta (20/3 Sukhumvit Soi 23). This divine store handweaves silk in gorgeous jewel tones to order, and, best of all, doesn't require a minimum order (unlike Jim Thompson, Bangkok's world-famous custom-silk shop). Stop at Buono for a fruity homemade ice cream or coffee, then continue to Rasi Sayam (32 Sukhumvit Soi 23) for Southeast Asian handicrafts. Now walk back down the street, but turn left at Giusto, an Italian restaurant, and then left again to find Shinawatra (94 Sukhumvit Soi 23). You'll see some ugly things at this old Thai silk company, but head to the back to find the smart textiles. When you walk out of the store, turn right and then left, and across the street you'll see Nandakwang (108/3 Sukhumvit Soi 23), which has a well-edited collection of candles, cushions, napkins and linens.
