A few weeks before the party, F&W messengered each guest a hollow white-chocolate sphere coated in silver dragées (candy balls), custom-made by John Down for Christopher Norman Chocolates (212-677-3722) as well as an instruction card with the direction "Get cracking!"and a diagram of a hand with a hammer. Within the sphere was a "magic silver stone" (a candied almond wrapped in foil) and an invitation folded accordion-style into a three-inch square; it was created on a computer, printed on silver Stardream paper ($1 a sheet from Kate's Paperie; 888-941-9169) and tied with silver cord ($1 a yard from K. Trimming; 212-431-8929). The invitation gave all the party details (it was to be at Andrew Solomon's beautiful home, in his silver-ceilinged dining room), and asked guests to wear silver and bring a favorite silver possession.
