Re-creating Marcia's Nha Trang Trip
GETTING THERE
Malaysia Airlines offers flights from Los Angeles and Newark, New Jersey, through Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, where travelers can get connecting flights to Nha Trang on Vietnam Airlines.
WHERE TO STAY
At Ana Mandara, guests stay in elegantly appointed, wood-framed villas with four-poster beds and private terraces—when they're not taking advantage of such activities as scuba diving and parasailing, or chartering boats and river excursions (011-84-58-522-222 or sixsenses.com; doubles from $248).
The Hideaway, Ana Mandara's sister property, opened in 2004. Built into a rocky peninsula stretching into Ninh Van Bay (accessible only by boat), the Hideaway is surrounded by 300 acres of pristine forest with waterfalls, steep cliffs and dense junglelike vegetation. Each of its 54 secluded villas has its own private pool encircled by huge boulders (villas from $550; 011-84-58-728-222 or sixsenses.com).
WHAT TO DO
Nha Trang's central food market, in the city center, is the main attraction. The market isn't far from the famous Long Son pagoda, with its enormous white statue of the Buddha; it's also about a 15-minute bicycle ride from Ana Mandara. For swimming or sunbathing, four miles of pristine beach form a crescent on the east side of the city.
