Longtime Chianti (and olive oil) producer Badia a Coltibuono is now a wine resort as well. A thousand-year-old abbey on the estate has been converted into a luxurious 10-room hotel; the rooms are former monks’ cells, though less austere than they were back in 1392. Guests are free to wander Badia’s almost 2,000 acres of woodlands, swim in the indoor or outdoor pools, participate in wine and olive oil tastings or take day-long cooking courses (doubles from $250; Gaiole in Chianti; 011-39-0577-744-832 or coltibuono.com).
