Spain’s Ferrer family (which also owns Spanish sparkling wine producer Freixenet) sources grapes from the up-and-coming Tierra de Castilla region, southeast of Madrid, for this juicy red. Full of wild strawberry and raspberry notes, it’s a great by-the-case purchase.

France’s Cazes family is best known for its Bordeaux properties, including the famous Lynch-Bages. But this spicy blend of Syrah, Carignane and Grenache from the Cazes property in the Languedoc is testament to the breadth of the family’s talent.
2004 Taltarni Three Monks ($16)
This blend of Cabernet and Merlot, from an Australian winery whose name means "red earth"— a reference to the local soil—bursts with black cherry and coffee notes. The grapes come from several vineyards in southeast Australia.
