Provenance Vineyards
Provenance Vineyards released its first vintage in 1999, the Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, and used that success to purchase the former Chateau Beaucanon winery just north of Rutherford some three years later. Set a good distance off busy Highway 29, the remodeled, red-walled building features a rustic tasting room that utilizes over 1000 re-purposed staves taken from the estate’s own oak barrels as flooring. Provence sources grapes from four vineyards: their Rutherford Vineyard contains well-drained soil that’s perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, as does the Kalon Vineyard in nearby Oakville; the 12-acre grounds of the Estate Vineyard are ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines; and the rocky soil and cool conditions at the Three Palms Vineyard, between Calistoga and St. Helena, results in robust Merlots.
