Winemaker Miljenko Grgic, better known as Mike Grgich, became famous for producing the Chardonnay that helped Napa Valley best the French in a 1976 blind tasting. He returned to his Croatian homeland to open Grgić Vina with daughter Violet in 1996. He applied lessons learned in the States to maximize native grapes like Posˇ ip and Plavac Mali at the family winery on Croatia’s Peljesac Peninsula. The operation, situated near Trstenik, is housed in a boxy stone structure.
