Clos Du Val
Situated in the valley of the Stags Leap district, Clos du Val winery earned international acclaim after producing one of the six Californian Cabernet Sauvignons presented at the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, which successfully established the state as a top purveyor of wine. Forged by John Goelet along the Silverado Trail, the mission-inspired winery has ivy-covered walls, an olive garden for reservation-only picnics, and even pétanque courts (similar to bocce ball). The winery offers a variety of tasting options as well as tours of a demonstration vineyard, where visitors learn about trellising techniques and the identification of grape varietals.
