South of St. Paul, this vineyard has successfully grown flavorful French grapes in Minnesota. In addition, climate-tolerant varieties have been developed by the University of Minnesota. Built from the state’s limestone and white pine, the winery was opened by lawyer David A. Bailly in 1978 and has earned more than 45 awards. Daughter and master winemaker Nan continues the production of wines like Voyageur, an Old World/New World grape blend, and Frontenac, a new Minnesota grape variety, both aged in barrels made with Midwestern oak. Visitors can enjoy Sunday Jazz, Wine and Wag (bring the dog), and picnics.
