The Portland Opera is known for presenting not only supertitled operas but also Broadway shows on tour. Additionally, their creative and skillfully made scenery and costumes are rented by other opera companies. Located in East Portland on the riverfront, the Portland Opera was founded in 1964 and today presents both main-stage events and touring performances around the Pacific Northwest. There is a Studio Artists program for aspiring singers, lectures, Opera Insights given before a production, and post-event discussions called Backtalks in which audience members can direct questions to General Director Christopher Mattaliano, the conductor, performers, and others.
