Royal Lyceum Theatre

Grindlay St.
Edinburgh , Scotland , United Kingdom http://www.lyceum.org.uk/

Just west of the Princes Street Gardens, the Lyceum is an impressive Victorian theatre dating back to 1883. Over the centuries, the theatre hosted some of Scotland’s most noteworthy theatrical events, including performances by Henry Irving and Ellen Terry. Today, the venue is home to the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company which produces up to eight plays each season, ranging from avant-garde works by Martin McDonagh to reinterpretations of classic operas like the Marriage of Figaro. Little changed since the Victorian era, the auditorium contains tiered red seating, an oversize crystal chandelier, and a proscenium stage framed by heavy velvet curtains.
