A bright blue exterior with large windows displays what this gourmet market is most recognized for: a traditional butchery specializing in locally raised, grass-fed beef. Opened by Andrew Tarlow and Mark Firth, two of Brooklyn’s sustainable food leaders and restaurateurs, this team wanted more control over the meat they served in their handful of restaurants. Though many of the steaks available are extra cuts from surrounding restaurants’ orders, the butchers are very knowledgeable about the specific meats and environments in which they were raised. Groceries like imported and domestic artisan cheeses, organic garlic, and heirloom tomatoes are also for sale.
