Award-winning rug-maker Angela Adams may have stores all over the country, but her flagship showroom in Portland is just a few miles from the very island she grew up on, and where inspiration for her naturalistic, timeless designs first bloomed. From abstract modish patterns to custom figurative carpets with woodland animals and aquatic creatures, Adams intuitively uses color and textures to create one-of-a-kind tufted floor-coverings that are fun, personal statements. In recent years, her line has expanded to include bed linens, tabletop, paper goods, and handbags. And as if one artist weren’t enough for the family, the store is also a show space for the sleek ‘60s-style statement furniture of Sherwood Hamill, Adams’s husband.
Insider Tip: Adams, who out-sources some of her weaving to India, is a member of Rugmark, a trade group whose certification ensures that every rug made is child-labor free.
