Île de Ré
Île de Ré is the only place in France where everything works, nothing tacky offends the eye, no one serving you is in a bad mood, and you can have a good meal without doing months of research. As a vacation spot it's completely undisappointing and entirely fulfilling. The island's 10 low, whitewashed towns are handsomely groomed, but not too groomed, with hollyhocks pushing through cobblestones.
Congratulations to Mei Lin, winner of Top Chef Season 12.
