Saint Vitus Cathedral

Hrad III. Nadvori
Prague , Czech Republic

Dominating the city skyline, the twin towers of St. Vitus Cathedral mark the largest and most significant church in the country. Located on the Prague Castle grounds, this Gothic cathedral was founded in 1344, although construction was not completed until 1929. The church hosted Bohemian coronations until the 19th century, and the crypt contains the tombs of many Czech kings and queens as well as patron saints. Notable features include the Art Nouveau stained glass created by Alphonse Mucha; the St. Wenceslas Chapel, decorated with 1,300 semiprecious stones; and the Renaissance-era bell tower, which offers panoramic views of the city.
