Robert Miller Gallery
The non-descript red brick facade of Robert Miller Gallery in Chelsea doesn't begin to hint at the eclectic art housed within. Soon after opening the gallery in 1977, Miller's art selections became a gold standard of New York; the variety of displays range from artists young and old, well-known to obscure. Past exhibitions have included photographers such as Robert Mapplethorpe (famous for his contributions to Patti Smith album covers), sculptor Louise Bourgeois, and painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. Many of the gallery's exhibitions are as provacative as they are aesthetically pleasing; Willem Oorebeek's american proof AP, for example, explores iconic American images such as the cover of Time magazine and the manner in which they are imprinted on our social consciouses.
