A pioneer in the Chelsea art scene, Matthew Marks has acquired through the years 16,000 square feet of exhibit space, encompassing four galleries and a museum-style poster shop. Beyond this gray-brick facade's glass doors, Marks’s slate of 20^th century and contemporary artists includes international powerhouse figures such as Jasper Johns, Nan Goldin, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, and Brice Marden. While perhaps a little skewed toward painting and photography, the gallery also shows large-scale sculpture and installation works as well. With 12 to 14 exhibitions a year, Matthew Marks is must-see stop on any Chelsea gallery tour.
