Behind its iconic marquee, the city’s largest theater has served many roles since opening in 1930 as a vaudeville house. Today, the Art Deco main auditorium seats 1,453 for the often big-name plays, musicals, concerts, and comedians, while smaller, more intimate shows by emerging playwrights occur downstairs in the Flynn Space. The Amy E. Tarrant Gallery, next to the lobby, exhibits regional artists with a connection to the programming at the time, whether it be in theme, style, or history. The venue also provides a home for the Vermont symphony and youth orchestras, Lyric Theatre, and Vermont Stage Company.
