One of New York City’s eight official scenic landmarks, Riverside Park is a haven of natural beauty and recreation in one of the nation’s most vibrant urban centers. The four-mile park runs from 72nd Street to 158th Street, following the Hudson River. Riverside Park was the brainchild of Central Park Commissioner William R. Martin, who proposed the creation of a park in the Upper West Side in 1865. Today, the park offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including sports fields, a marina and playgrounds. The park also features a number of fountains and monuments.
