Located at the east end of Waikiki, Kapiolani Park is home to Hawaii’s famous Diamond Head (a volcanic crater), as well as the Honolulu Zoo. The park is named after Queen Kapiolani, the wife of King Kalakaua, and was established in the 1870’s. The park has many picnic sites, and its 500 acres are dotted with century-old trees. The park is also home to the Waikiki Shell, which hosts a variety of concerts; the Kodak Hula Show; and a three-mile jogging course. On Sunday afternoons, there are free concerts from the Royal Hawaiian Band at the Kapiolani Bandstand.
