Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve
Located in Sonoma County three miles north of Guerneville, Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve preserves more than 800 acres of coast redwood trees, which can live upwards of 1,000 years, grow to a diameter of 16 feet, and reach a height of 250 feet. Although it's possible to drive into the park, most visitors opt to park in the lot adjacent to the entrance and walk in for free. The Pioneer Nature Trail, a flat, 1 ½-mile-long loop, gives access to a large outdoor amphitheater and the Colonel Armstrong Tree, the oldest tree in the grove, estimated to be more than 1,400 years old.
