If you want to survey the local scene, head to Amnesia, which rocks until well past midnight five nights a week. It’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s the best place to dance on the north shore. The music is mostly dance hall (the Jamaican version of hip-hop), but on Sundays it’s all about the oldies—including classic reggae from the 70’s and 80’s. Performers like Elephant Man and guest DJ’s on Friday nights bring in a mostly local crowd. Tourists tend to congregate around the picnic tables on the open-air patio, while the permanent residents pack the dance floor.
