Victoria Peak

Hong Kong , China http://www.thepeak.com.hk
(852) 2522-0922

This 1,800-foot mountain, whose looming peak is visible from almost all of Central district, doubles as the address for Hong Kong’s wealthiest residents. The journey to the top of the Peak via cable tram is a blast, although not recommended for acrophobes; you head up the mountainside at what seems an impossibly steep angle. Once you’ve arrived at the summit and navigated around the requisite tourist crowds, you can stroll around the mountain via a pleasant, tree-lined pathway. Make time for the entire circular trip of about two miles or so, which allows you to peek through the trees at the splendid harbor below.

Insider’s Tip: Try to visit in the afternoon before it gets dark, and then stay on into the evening (maybe for dinner at ). By day, the views hold their own against those in Sydney, Rio, and San Francisco—but when the nighttime neon show switches on, the Peak blows its rivals out of the water.
