Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Just west of the city, Red Rock Canyon is the perfect spot for bike rides and hikes. During parts of a 13-mile scenic drive, you can see the entire valley (including, on very clear days, the Strip). The canyon is red from the iron oxide in its fossilized sandstone. Go on a weekday and take one of the quieter hikes, like around Willow Springs to see the Indian “handprints” and pictographs.
