Commodore Ballroom

Young music lovers and older fans of Art Deco architecture share an affinity for this restored, historic (built in 1929) venue in the middle of the Downtown entertainment district. The famous springy dance floor may not get much use these days (acts like Martha Wainwright, Gogol Bordello, and the Sisters of Mercy don't exactly invite fox-trotting); but the crowds are still as enthusiastic here as they were in the days when Count Basie and Cab Calloway swung the house.
