Pirates of Nassau Museum

Print
George St. at King
Nassau
242/356-3759

Over the years, Nassau's many protected shoals and islets have provided the ideal base for the most notorious Caribbean pirates, including Blackbeard and Calico Jack, who destroyed the entire town in 1695. The museum includes a replica of an 18th-century pirate ship, on which museumgoers can pretend to stow away. Though the theme-park qualities (staffers in pirate costume) can be off-putting, it's a good place to learn about the golden age of piracy, including the only known female pirates, Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
