Museum of Indian Arts & Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology (MIAC)

710 Camino Lejo , East Side
Santa Fe , New Mexico

Part of the Museum Hill complex about three miles southeast of the Plaza, this is the best of a handful of facilities in town dedicated to preserving and interpreting the Southwest's indigenous pottery, weaving, jewelry, and other art forms. It's not merely a record of the past either; MIAC shows the works of quite a few emerging talents, including many from pueblos in North-Central New Mexico.

Tip: Visit the area in mid-August (August 23-24, 2008) to attend the Santa Fe Indian Market, which has brought collectors and indigenous artisans together since it formed in 1922.

Admission: $8 (included with $18 museum pass). Closed Mondays, except summer.
