The Henry Ford

Print
20900 Oakwood Boulevard
Dearborn , Michigan
800-835-5237

The region's premier museum, the Henry Ford is a breathtaking repository for the history of innovation. The sprawling indoor-outdoor collection, located just a few miles from downtown Detroit, would take days to see in its entirety. Highlights include one of the first Model T's, the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop (moved from Dayton, Ohio), and the authentically rebuilt laboratory of Thomas Edison's “invention factory” in Menlo Park, NJ. There are also three artifacts displayed that will forever be part of American history: the limo in which John F. Kennedy was shot, the blood-stained chair Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was assassinated (ironically, in Ford's Theatre), and the bus in which Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her front seat.

Tip: The museum is the starting point for assembly-line tours of the Ford Rouge Plant, where the F-150 pickup is made.

Admission: $30 adults; $22 children (5-12); free for children 4 and under. (Prices vary depending on what attractions you want to see).
