Chettinad Museum

Its collection of ancient sculptures is equaled only by that at the Palace Museum at Thanjavur. Most people visit looking for the famous bronzes of the multi-armed Shiva known as Nataraja, or Lord of the Dance. One could spend days here following around barefoot attendants like the one who explains for my benefit that the taxidermy specimens are "all skin only original, inside cotton stuffing."
