Atlanta History Center

130 West Paces Ferry Road NW , Buckhead
Atlanta , Georgia
404/814-4000

Set on the grounds of Swan House, one of Atlanta's classic historic estates, the Atlanta History Center features permanent and special exhibitions devoted to the history of the city and region. Civil War aficionados won't want to miss the collection of Civil War artifacts (one of the largest in the world); there's also an excellent display of historic regional folk art (heavy on the ceramics and textiles); and the Tullie Smith Farm, with several antebellum-era farm buildings. The center's extensive landscaped gardens—which include a rhododendron garden that's spectacular in early summer—are wonderful for strolling.

Tip: Plan to have lunch—and mint juleps—at the Swan Coach House (advance reservations are a good idea in spring and summer).

Open daily.

Admission: $15 adults; $12 seniors (65 and older); $12 students (13 and up); $10 children (4–12); free for children 3 and under
