One of New York City’s most prestigious museums, the American Museum of Natural History encourages visitors to explore and understand the natural world around them. Founded in 1869, the museum has evolved into an expansive institution. Visitors can browse a number of impressive permanent halls, including the Akeley Hall of African Mammals, the Koch Dinosaur Wing, the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life and the Guggenheim Hall of Minerals. The museum also hosts a variety of special exhibits, and it features an IMAX theater and the Hayden Planetarium, which offers exciting, educational shows about space.
