National Museum of the American Indian
Opened in 2004, the National Museum of the American Indian, part of the Smithsonian Institute, is located on the National Mall just across from the National Air and Space Museum. The building stands out on the Mall for its curved exterior of Kasota limestone, designed to resemble wind-shaped sandstone. Inside, the museum boasts three permanent exhibits covering traditional knowledge, history, and contemporary identity, and the extensive collection includes Native American arts and artifacts from arounds the word, such as basketry, ceremonial items, jewelry, and hide clothing. Festivals and temporary exhibits rotate throughout the year.
