Rose Hall Great House

Set atop a windy bluff east of Montego Bay, this 18th-century manse is not only beautiful and famous—it's also haunted. The ghost is said to be Annie Palmer, who was raised by a voodoo priestess on Haiti, took up the practice, moved to Jamaica, and became known as the White Witch of Rose Hall (a novel of the same name is sold all over the island) after murdering three husbands and several slave lovers. Even if you don't believe in ghosts, the meticulously restored three-story plantation estate is worth seeing for the mahogany antiques and miles of silk wallpaper alone.

Tip: Combine a visit to the great house with a round of 18 at the surrounding White Witch Golf Course, considered to be the most challenging links in Jamaica.
