The only Canadian museum dedicated solely to ceramics, the Gardiner showcases a collection of more than 3,000 pieces, ranging from ancient Mayan figurines to 17th-century English Delftware and dynamic contemporary pieces. The museum itself, located across the street from the Royal Ontario Museum, is a boxy modernist structure with a polished limestone façade and three floors of exhibit space. In addition to the permanent collection, the galleries also house temporary exhibits, with past shows including work by Jun Kaneko and Betty Woodman. Run by locally renowned chef Jamie Kennedy, the Gardiner Café serves organic sandwiches amid views of Queen’s Park.
