Bike Along the Canal de Lachine

Print
Vieux-Montréal
Montreal , Quebec

Montreal has great bike trails throughout the city and along the water. The best of them is the one that follows the Lachine Canal for about nine miles, from the old city to the western suburbs. In Old Montreal, Ça Roule Montréal (27 Rue De la Commune Est; 514-866-0633; www.caroulemontreal.com) offers both bicycle rentals and guided tours. Once you have your wheels, head out across the canal to the little peninsula that holds architect Moshe Safdie's groundbreaking boxed condominiums, Habitat ‘67, designed for the Expo 67. Afterward, cross back over to the north side of the canal and head west along the grass-lined and well-paved path to Atwater Market (138 Avenue Atwater), one of the city's top farmers' markets. The cheese stalls, bakeries, and wine shops have all the provisions you need to put together an afternoon picnic.
