Madrid Festivals
The Festival Internacional de Madrid en Danza (www.madrid.org/madridendanza; 011-34-91-720-83-45), in April, brings dancers from all mediums and a myriad of countries to city theaters. From mid-May through early June, the Suma Flamenca (www.sumaflamenca.com; 011-34-91-720-82-12) spotlights flamenco dancers, singers, and instrumentalists at a number of venues. Throughout July and August, the city is enthralled by the music, dance, and theater series Veranos de la Villa (www.esmadrid.com/veranosdelavilla; 011-34-91-480-48-00). Concerts range from opera and classical music to rock to jazz; past performers have included Macy Gray and the Boston Ballet. Tickets can be as low as 15 euros (about $19) per show. PhotoEspaña (www.phedigital.com; 011-34-90-299-91-94), in June and July, is an opportunity to see the work of up-and-coming global photographers and some well-established names, mostly for free.
