A retail home for local cheesemakers, tea makers, and gourmet gift basket assemblers, DiBruno Bros now has several locations since opening its South Philly flagship in 1939 on Ninth Street, where the shelves are still stocked with rare, local, and international cheeses and meats (some hang from the ceilings). The newer “Pronto” wing serves prepared foods like sandwiches and salads. Salesmen—including the original owners’ sons and nephews, who still walk the floor—answer questions about the origins of all the products, including local cheeses like the parmesano domestica and seasonal imports such as specialty olive oils and pesto ingredients.
