Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club

Print
6701 Collins Avenue , South Beach
Miami , FL
(305) 403-7565

Sandoval—a trumpeter, Dizzy Gillespie protégé, and first-rate jazz legend—runs a first-rate club, perfect for a downbeat evening. It's a welcome addition to the nightlife scene, which is full of one too many dance clubs. On any given night, Sandoval might sit in with friends like Cachao, a Cuban mambo music pioneer, or Miami local Andy Garcia, a huge fan of Latin jazz. Set up as an old-fashioned supper club offering two shows a night, it serves a civilized dinner along with the jazz. Miami may be a town given over to pounding house music, but at Arturo's place, adults still rule the nightlife roost, and intelligent music prevails.

Tip: Tickets tend to range from $15 to $42, with a $15 mandatory food and beverage charge per person. The food is serviceable, but a better bet is a few drinks at the bar, where the experience feels more like an old-line jazz club.
