Woody Creek Tavern

Hunter S. Thompson's old haunt lives on in this rustic tavern covered in old news clipping and memorabilia, mostly about the gonzo journalist himself. Local diehards and tourists pour in for "dogs" (Flying Dog microbrews) and "Fresh" (fresh-squeezed lime-juice margaritas made with blue-agave tequila). While alcohol is the star here (just as Hunter liked it), the menu's not half bad, with hulking, low-fat limousine beef burgers, excellent pork ribs, and organic salads.

Tip: Bring cash; credit cards are a no-go.
