Owned by eccentric restaurateur Fabio Picchi of Cibreino, Teatro del Sale is a members-only restaurant/theater/social club. Starting at 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, Florentine workers and society types stand in line for dishes (boiled meats with radishes, risotto with mussels) announced by Picchi from the kitchen as they are served. At 9:30 p.m., guests clear away dishes and reposition their chairs for the evening performance, which may be a musical, comedy, or theater act—in Italian, but even those who don’t know the language will enjoy the atmosphere: this is the Florence of the Florentines at its authentic best. They also do lunches and breakfasts, but without the floor show.
