Situated in southeast Portland, this bakery is the namesake of French-trained pastry chef Cheryl Wakerhauser, known to her friends as Pix. Now one of two locations, the flagship is decorated with bright yellow walls, candlelit wooden tables, and ceiling beams hung with faux vines and sock monkeys. Specialties range from pear-rosemary tarts to chocolate-covered cherries, but Pix is best known for its French macarons (meringue-based cookie sandwiches filled with buttercream), available in 30 unusual flavors like sherry almond, cassis violet, and maple bacon. The bakery also serves dessert wines and “beer floats” made with chocolate stout and mocha ice cream.
