Located on the National Mall and connected by an underground exhibit, the Freer and Sackler Galleries form the Smithsonian's museums of Asian art. The Sackler Gallery houses more than 1,000 works donated by Arthur M. Sackler, while the Freer Gallery features 7,500 pieces from the collection of Charles Lang Freer, including a number of works by his friend James McNeill Whistler. Highlights include ancient Egyptian stone falcons, 15th-century Persian love poetry manuscripts, and Whistler's Peacock Room, designed with gold wall murals and a feather-patterned gold leaf ceiling. The adjacent courtyard is a popular place to relax after browsing the exhibits.
